Never Have I Ever: 100 Questions That Actually Expose People
Never Have I Ever is the simplest game ever invented. No board, no cards, no rules beyond "hold up your fingers and be honest." It has survived decades of party culture because its core mechanic is perfect: you learn more about someone in one round of Never Have I Ever than in six months of casual friendship.
But most question lists are garbage. They're either too tame ("Never have I ever been to Europe") or too generic ("Never have I ever lied"). The best questions are specific enough to trigger stories but universal enough that multiple people put a finger down.
These 100 questions are organized by intensity. Start at Level 1 and work your way up — or jump straight to Level 4 if your group has zero chill.
How to Play
Everyone holds up 10 fingers. One person makes a "Never have I ever..." statement. If you HAVE done the thing, you put a finger down. First person to lose all 10 fingers is out (or drinks, or faces a dare — your choice).
House rules that improve the game:
- Story tax. If you put a finger down and the group demands it, you must tell the story. One sentence minimum. This turns the game from a yes/no exercise into actual storytelling.
- No hedging. "Kind of" doesn't count. If you have to think about it, you did it. Finger down.
- No targeting. You can't craft statements aimed at one specific person. Questions must be general enough that anyone could have done them.

Tips for the Best Game
- Start at Level 1 regardless. Even experienced groups need a warm-up. The progression builds social trust that makes the later levels work.
- Enforce the story tax. The game is 10x better when people explain their answers. A finger going down means nothing without context.
- Watch for discomfort. If someone consistently keeps their hands stiff and won't put fingers down, they might be performing rather than playing. Check in privately.
- Pair with other games. Never Have I Ever works brilliantly as a warm-up for more structured games like ScaryChallenges or Paranoia.
- End on a high note. After Level 4 or 5, bring it back with a round of silly Level 1 questions to decompress.
